Teacher's love

Because love should be the strength that moves us when teaching our students. And because sharing keeps us moving to reach them... Here you can find ressources I make for teaching English, mainly to children.

Past Simple

Kita

An informative sheet on the Past Simple. It explains how to form this tense in the affirmative, interrogative and negative form and the modifications you have to make to the verb, deppending on its ending (regular verbs).

On top of the 1st page you also have some expressions used with the Past Simple, which can be useful for students to know when to use this tense.

Christmas vocabulary

Kita

A sheet with some vocabulary about Christmas. You can also take out the words from the boxes and make it a worksheet to teach/revise the vocabulary. This way students can test themselves if they remember the words or if they can associate the written words with the pictures (this way you should give them the written words in a random order).

Vocabulary included: Santa Claus, Present, Reindeer, Candle, Christmas Tree, Elf, Star, Bells, Sleigh, Chimney, Candy Cane and Stocking.

Greetings

Kita

A worksheet I use for the 3rd and 4th Grade to consolidate the written form of the greetings (Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, Good Night, Hello, Hi, Goodbye, Bye, Bye-bye). Students should write the correct greeting from the box (Word bank) and write it under the right picture. You can allow them to colour the pictures after solving the worksheet.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle

Kita

This is a very good story to teach days of the week or to introduce food.

I adapted the story, because the original would be too hard for my little students (I changed some language and changed some food items). I told them the story and then made a puppets play which was seen by the parents at the end of the year. The students built their own puppets for the story and had lots of fun.

I was the narrator of the puppets play, but it can also be a student.

After telling the story there are many activities you can make with your students. If you want some ideas, the following webpages are very helpful: DLTK and Teachingheart.

This is the text for the puppets play I performed with my students.

The influence of English in the Portuguese language

Kita

These are some words that we use in Portuguese, which come from the English language. This is useful to show the students that some words we use are similar or even the same as the ones English people use.

The teacher should cut or fold the last part of the worksheet, where the words are written in English, so that the students don't see them before doing the exercise. Then the students should write the words they see in the pictures in Portuguese and then compare with the same words written in English (they will see that there are many similarities).
